My Son’s Fiancée Asked Me Not to Wear Blue to Their Wedding – Then I Saw What Her Mother Was Wearing

And the moment I walked in, I stopped dead.

Vanessa’s mother was wearing BLUE.

For a second, I honestly thought I was seeing things.

She stood near the entrance, greeting relatives in a gorgeous blue gown.

She wore it like nothing about the choice was unusual.

I’d spent money on a whole new dress because Vanessa specifically asked me not to wear that color.

And there she was.

What the hell?

I was already annoyed.

Then I looked around.

Even two of her aunts were wearing blue.

They all had matching little corsages too.

It was not an accidental color choice. Whatever those women were wearing, it had clearly been coordinated.

I tried to tell myself there had to be an explanation.

There was.

Unfortunately, it only made things worse.

I found Vanessa before the ceremony.

She was surrounded by people, but I waited until I could get close enough to speak quietly.

“You told me no one was supposed to wear blue.”

She shifted uncomfortably.

“Not exactly.”

I stared at her.

“Then why did you tell ME not to?”

Before she could answer, her mother stepped closer.

“Blue is for family.”

For a moment, I could only look at her.

“I’m the groom’s mother.”

She gave me a tight little smile.

Not an apologetic smile.

Not even an embarrassed one.

A tight smile.

I turned to my son.

“Grant?”

He wouldn’t meet my eyes.

“Mom. Please. Not now.”

That hurt more than anything Vanessa or her mother had said.

Fine.

I wasn’t going to start a fight on my son’s wedding day.

I moved away, smiled when people spoke to me, and tried to convince myself that it was just wedding nonsense.

But I started noticing things I hadn’t before.

After the ceremony, the photographer began arranging everyone for pictures.

When Grant suggested taking one photo with just the two of us, Vanessa immediately shook her head.

“We don’t have time for that.”

Grant glanced at me.

“Maybe just one—”

“Grant. We have a schedule.”

He went quiet.

The photographer looked uncomfortable.

I forced a smile and told Grant it was fine
