My Sister Kept Walking Around My Husband in Just a Towel and Called It a ‘Test’ – Then One Day, He Did Something That Made Her Turn Bright Red

Once she had income, she’d contribute a small amount.

We’d keep looking at rooms.

Then we’d agree on a realistic move-out date.

“And no more tests,” I said.

Andrew walked into the kitchen carrying groceries.

“That should probably become a universal house rule.”

Kayla pointed at him.

“Nobody asked you.”

“He’s allowed to speak in his own kitchen.”

Andrew put the bags down.

“Thank you, Amanda.”

Kayla rolled her eyes.

But there was no anger behind it anymore.

Then Andrew looked at me.

“And next time something affects both of us, I won’t hide behind ‘she’s your sister.’”

“Good.”

Kayla groaned.

“Are you two seriously going to become emotionally healthy right in front of me?”

“Probably,” Andrew said. “You can move out if it becomes unbearable.”

She threw a dish towel at him.

The next morning, I heard the shower before seven.

Andrew was drinking coffee when footsteps came downstairs.

He glanced at me.

I glanced back.

Kayla entered the kitchen wearing the ancient blue robe.

Faded ducks.

Uneven sleeves.

Everything.

Nobody commented.

She walked to the coffee maker.

Then she reached toward the expensive coffee beans Andrew ordered online.

She stopped.

“Can I use these?”

Andrew looked over his mug.

“Yeah.”

“Thanks.”

That was it.

No grand speech.

No dramatic apology.

Just a question she’d never thought she needed to ask before.

Then Kayla opened the cabinet.

The coffee filters were still on the top shelf.

She stretched.

Couldn’t reach them.

Andrew instinctively started standing.

Kayla pointed at him.

“Sit.”

He sat.

She dragged a kitchen chair across the floor, stepped onto it and grabbed the filters herself.

When she climbed down, she caught me smiling.

“What?”

“Nothing.”

Kayla looked at the robe.

Then the chair.

Then the filters in her hand.

Finally, she smiled.

“See?”

She pushed the chair back into place.

“Back on my feet.”

This time, all three of us laughed.
